Architecture, Public Space, Restaurant

Laphant designed and envisioned a unique outdoor dining experience for The Morris Restaurant in San Francisco which creates an inspirational space with dynamic sculptural forms, textural plants, and an adaptable modular system. Featured in the SF Chronicle as one of the best parklet designs in San Francisco.

The modular aspect allows the business to choose how long or wide they will need for their specific street and seating requirements. The result is an adaptable footprint that can accommodate the required number of tables and the varying urban parking layouts; expansion can be done over time and in phases with ease. Minimum 6’ clearances can be utilized for social distancing, or tighter spacing can be used if required. We wanted the dining experience to be private and still porous to take advantage of environmental and social benefits of dining al fresco in an urban environment. The result is a gradual stepped assembly of planter walls with varied plantings for added privacy.

Optional covered structures can be added to protect from sun, rain, and sound; the coverings feature either a wood or metal superstructure and a choice of reclaimed sail fabric or solid roofing. These units are for sale as modular units and can be pre-fabricated and delivered / finished on site. Additional options for varying budgets are available such as a higher priced cedar clad unit.
